The cycle of information w/r/t caring about stuff has always been the same, I think. Now- I think the spread of information getting faster as a result of technology is a good thing. I have a ridiculous future computer in my pocket1, for example! It’s pretty awesome. But my inner Crank (let’s call him Gary) worries that by this time, say, next year or so, we’ll be “over” a news item roughly 2 hours before we find out about it. Now that’s efficiency!
